The Oregon men’s tennis team was eliminated from the ITA Northwest Regional tournament in Seattle on Monday. Two duos from the Ducks made the quarterfinals in the doubles bracket while sophomore Alex Rovello advanced to the final eight in the main singles draw.
“This weekend in general was a successful one,” head coach Nils Schyllander said to GoDucks.com. “To put two doubles teams and a singles player into the final eight in one of the toughest regions in the country is encouraging. It’s a great stepping stone.”
Rovello was knocked out by California’s Carlos Cueto with a final score of 6-4, 6-2. Cueto, seeded No. 3 overall, will advance to face fellow Golden Bear Ben McLachlan in the semifinal round.
Cueto also ended Oregon’s bid in the doubles portion, teaming with McLachlan to beat the Oregon duo of Jose Izquierdo and Rovello 8-3.
Oregon’s other doubles team, comprised of junior Jeff Muller and sophomore Robin Cambier, saw their tournament end after falling to second-ranked Stanford. The Cardinal’s duo of John Morrissey and Ryan Thacher won by a score of 8-6.
The Ducks will be off for two weeks before resuming play for their first home tournament, the PNW Intercollegiate, on Nov. 4.@@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4407&SPID=248&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=205321798&DB_OEM_ID=500@@
