Even a 13-2 pre-season record wasn’t enough to propel No. 26 Oregon men’s tennis to a win in it’s Pac-12 opener today, and the Ducks fell 4-1 to No.6 UCLA.
The loss dropped Oregon to 13-3, 0-1 Pac-12, before the Ducks finish off opening weekend against USC. Oregon opened the day with force, snapping up the doubles point over UCLA on No. 2 and No. 3 to take the 1-0 lead. It was Oregon’s tenth doubles win in a row. But the doubles point was the sole score Oregon would make on Friday.
UCLA’s No. 9-ranked singles player Mackenzie McDonald beat Oregon’s No. 94 Daan Maasland. The Bruins then took the 3-1 lead when Thomas Laurent was defeated by No. 49 Martin Redlicki. UCLA secured the final singles point of the night, and the Ducks were defeated for the second straight match.
