In its first meeting since winter break, the ASUO Student Senate met Wednesday night and geared up for the new term by taking care of general housekeeping duties, updating the progress of several committees and hearing a special request from the Student Insurgent.
Representatives from The Insurgent appeared at the meeting to ask the senate to transfer funds from the $14,439 surplus to help pay for the group to attend an independent publishing conference in San Francisco, and help fund the Against Patriarchy Conference. The group had engaged in previous fundraising efforts, gaining extra money from other student groups and benefit events, but still fell short of their financial goals.
After extended deliberations, the senate voted to give The Insurgent the requested funding, $3,314 for the conference, and $501 for travel and lodging expenses for the conference.
Committee members also updated the senate on their recent developments.
