Oregon football defensive back Daylen Austin, age 19, was arrested at 11:45 p.m. on April 15, and has been initially charged with felony hit-and-run, according to a statement from Eugene Police Department Public Information Director Melinda McLaughlin.
The fatal hit-and-run took place at W. 4th and Polk on April 14 at around 9:10 p.m. The victim is a 46-year-old man according to police.
The fatal hit-and-run is still under investigation and the EPD is still gathering information to submit to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision.
Austin committed to UO in Dec. 2022 as a four star recruit from Long Beach, CA. The defensive back has appeared in three games as a freshman while being in his redshirt year.
Austin was released from custody on April 17. He has been charged with Hit and Run Vehicle-Injury — a class B felony.
Austin will appear in court at the Lane County Circuit Courthouse on Wednesday, May 22.
