The Oregon softball team is making a mid-week trip to Corvallis today to make up a postponed game with Oregon State. The game starts at 4 p.m. at the OSU Softball Complex.
Originally scheduled for last Sunday, the game date was changed because of cold, rainy conditions in the area. It makes it a busy week for Oregon (28-20, 1-9 Pacific-10 Conference), which travels to Arizona later this week for a game in Tucson against Arizona and two games over the weekend with Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.
Oregon State (26-21, 4-6 Pac-10) won the first of the two rival games this week last Saturday, 3-1. The Beavers benefited from a complete-game one-hitter by Kelly Dyer, a Churchill graduate.
Oregon never discovered its offensive groove, with Neena Bryant providing the lone hit on a third-inning single that scored outfielder Sari-Jane Jenkins from second base.
Jenkins reached base three times on walks. She also became Oregon’s career stolen bases leader with two stolen bases Saturday. Jenkins now has 26 on the season, second to teammate Cortney Kivett, who has 31.
The Ducks did have runners on first and third with two outs in the first inning and third baseman Joanna Gail at bat, but the senior struck out to end the inning.
Oregon received a second consecutive complete game in Pac-10 play from pitcher Brittany Rumfelt (5-2). Rumfelt gave up three runs, of which two were earned, and had four strikeouts.
After the upcoming Arizona road trip, Oregon returns to Eugene for eight consecutive home games at Howe Field to end the regular season.
