The Emerald entertainment desk gets an avalanche of promotional photos for bands, movies and various “acts” during any given week. This special column takes a moment to present the most bizarre image received. This, admittedly, was a slow week, but we did the best we could.
After purchasing a round deli turkey sandwich from the EMU Subway, my flip-flopped feet slipped on a sliver of melted ice, and I dropped to the floor with a thud. When the initial shock wore off, I looked up to find four men dressed all in black and, in my opinion, too much hair for the slicked-back turn of the century, standing above me.
With voices laden with soothing condolence, they helped me to my feet and one of them handed me back my sandwich, which he had caught in mid-air as I fell to the floor. I thanked all four for their good deeds, and they smiled warmly, almost knowingly, in return.
It didn’t hit me until I returned to the office. Was it The Moody Blues? They are performing at the Cuthbert Amphitheater on Aug. 24. The wavy locks and good-natured personalities matched the M.O. compiled in my head from details passed down by my elders.
I stared for many minutes at the courtesy photo the label sent us. Could they have been the Good Samaritans from downstairs? Maybe just in town early? I will never know.
