Monthly fees for wastewater and stormwater will increase for residents if the Eugene City Council approves proposed adjustments for services issued after July 1.
The proposed wastewater fees for residents would increase $1.55 to a total of $19.47 per month. The increases will help pay for projects to expand and upgrade the wastewater system to accommodate future growth, avoid sewage overflows and meet new regulations governing water quality in the Willamette River.
The stormwater fees will increase for residents at a rate proportional to the size of their homes, Public Works Administration Division Manager Becky Carlson said. The rate for medium-size homes between 1,000 and 3,000 square feet willincrease $1.14 to $8.69 per month, she said. The fee increases are intended to support street, tree and median maintenance work and for new permit-related activities.
The City Council is holding a public hearing at 3 p.m. today in the McNutt Room at Eugene City Hall on the issue. A brochure describing the rate adjustments will be included in Eugene Water and Electric Board billings beginning June 1.
