The University United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Campus Initiative, a first-year student government program, begins selling ribbons today to raise money for the victims of the Oct. 8 earthquake in Pakistan.
A table will be set up outside the University Bookstore today through Friday for the campaign, “Give a Dollar, Give Hope.”
The small teal ribbons will be sold for $1. UNICEF Campus Initiative also hopes to spread the awareness that many people, especially children, still need help rebuilding lives that were destroyed by the earthquake, UNICEF Campus Initiative President Sean Burt said.
“The earthquake came after the big tsunami and Hurricane Katrina,” Burt said. “I think that people were so overwhelmed by natural disasters that not many paid attention to the Pakistan earthquake.”
The campaign is the first large project of the new program. Its goal is to raise $3,000, Burt said.
