Eugene native and crust-punk Pip William has been homeless around the city for a couple years now, he said.
He took a break from asking for spare change on campus Monday to talk to the Emerald about life on the streets.
ODE: So how do you spend your time?
PW: Spange (spare for change) normally. Hang out with friends. I play guitar and bass ‘n’ I used to be in a local band called Acid ants. They haven’t played for a while, but the guitarist is movin’ back here from Roseburg so they should be startin’ up again.
ODE: Have you traveled at all?
PW: Yeah, Seattle to New York to Santa Fe. I hitchhiked with a truck driver named Larry from Grants Pass, Ore. to New York. An 18-Wheeler. Cool guy.
ODE: Is it easier to be homeless here than other places? Do you get enough to eat?
PW: I’m from here, my family’s here. I know a bunch of people. It’s just a cool town to be in. It’s easy; usually make enough to get booze, too.
ODE: What else do you want to say to Eugene?
PW: Something needs to be done about heroin in this town. I’ve seen too many people go down the wrong road.
