The Oregon men’s golf team improved to 13th overall at the Prestige at PGA West on Tuesday, but no Ducks finished the tournament in the top 20.
Oregon closed out its final round with a team tournament-best 12-over-par 295 at the Greg Norman Course.
Landon Banks shot a final round 2-over-par 74 to drop down 12 spots to 22 overall. Banks was set to close out the final round in a tie for 15th, but a double bogey on 11 ruined the sophomore’s chances to card a personal best.
Matt Ma bounced back from 4-over on the opening hole to shoot 1-over par on his way to tying for 61st out of 78 total participants. Ma moved up 9 spots, which helped the Ducks in their climb to 13th.
Zeke Reyna continued his solid tournament at 8-over par. Reyna knocked in three birdies, but doubled up with six bogeys to finish his final round with a 3-over-par 75. The junior transfer finished the Prestige tied for 35th.
Joey Benedetti rebounded from a 7-over par second round with a 1-over. Benedetti shot a steady round, but slipped up on the 10th hole with a double bogey. The junior carded a tie for 51st, and moved up six spots.
Derek Sipe held strong at the bottom of the leaderboard. The junior carded a final round 5-over par and improved five spots, tied for 70th. Sipe, posting the best round of his tournament, hit his only multiple-birdie round of the Prestige. Sipe also managed to limit the number of double-bogeys to one for the first time this week.
Oregon finished two shots behind the University of Northern Colorado, but would have needed a few personal-best rounds to move to the middle of the pack.
Stanford and UCLA both posted impressive rounds.
The tournament was decided on the last hole. UCLA’s Lucas Lee negated a near-perfect back nine with a triple bogey on the final hole. Lee’s triple bogey, paired with great rounds by all the Cardinal, solidified a Stanford win and dropped Lee into a tie for second.
Stanford’s Zack Miller won the tournament with six birdies on his final-round back nine.
Oregon takes the links for the fifth week in a row next Monday and Tuesday when the Ducks host the Big Ten/Pacific-10 Challenge at the Pacific Dunes course in Bandon.
