BIKE RACK: The Student Senate plans to have a contest in which all University students, faculty and staff can submit design ideas for the new bike rack. Designs may also come from University professor Marcy Adzich, who is considering assigning her fall students to create 3D art models of rack designs, Senator Athan Papailiou said. If the Senate approves the budget for the new rack, designs will be chosen from contest submissions, including any designs created by Adzich’s class, Papailiou said.
There are tentative plans for the bicycle rack to be located outside of Chiles Business Center. The location of the rack will require approval from the campus planning committee, Papailiou said.
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: Senators were approached last year by Brett Rowlett, ASUO and OSA campus organizer, about establishing the program, said Senator Jacqueline Justice, who heads the internship program committee. The committee is still in the process of trying to design the program and determine what roles interns, who will be students from the Planning, Public Policy and Management program, will take on in their work for the Senate.
“I’m really excited about the idea,” she said. “It would be a great way for the Senate to reach out to the campus.”
The internship committee will hold its own meeting Aug. 9 and the matter will be discussed further at the next Senate meeting on Aug. 23.
MONEY: Senators approved a proposal from the Women’s Law Forum to release $293.00 from the organization’s food holding account to be used to purchase food for an upcoming “welcome event.”
