The third day at the NCAA Women’s Golf National Championships proved to be just as tough as the first two for Oregon senior Cathryn Bristow. The 28th annual tournament, hosted by Georgetown University at the Caves Valley Golf Club, has been a challenge for Bristow during the first three days.
She tallied scores of 6-over 78 on Tuesday, 7-over 79 on Wednesday, and added another 7-over 79 yesterday afternoon. The Huapai, New Zealand native parred 10 holes, while bogeying six, and double bogeyed the 14th hole. She began the day with her strongest start of the tournament so far by making par on the first two holes and hit a birdie – her first of the tournament – on the third hole. She followed that up with another par.
Bristow now finds herself in a tie for 87th overall, while Southern California’s Jennifer Strong moved up four places and will look to contend for the individual title.
Three Pacific-10 Conference teams are leading the way after three rounds, with No. 4 Southern California, No. 2 UCLA and No. 1 Arizona State all within four strokes of each other.
The final round of action will conclude this afternoon, as USC looks to take home its second straight national title.
