As leaders from a broad spectrum of campus life, we recognize the need for diverse representation in the ASUO. Our campus represents a patchwork of communities, and we need leaders who understand this and work to bridge this diversity. Elected students must be capable of representing the voice of all students, not those aligned with one political slate or interest.
That’s why we’ve come together from across student programs, the Student Alumni Association, grad students, and yes, fraternities and sororities, too, to urge students to vote for Amelie Rousseau and Maneesh Arora and the Campus Change Coalition.
We need leaders whose policies will benefit the greater good — leaders who will recognize students’ collective needs, from housing and accessibility issues on campus to fighting for more affordable higher education in Salem and Washington, D.C.
In a year where our campus has united to address hate speech and with tuition rising another 5 to 10 percent next year, we now more than ever need an ASUO that will represent all students. We endorse Amelie and Maneesh and the Campus Change Coalition because, just like there is no one student voice, there shouldn’t be just one voice in the ASUO.
