Best sports year ever?
When the softball team took down the Texas Longhorns in Austin on Saturday, it got several of us at the Emerald thinking: Has there ever been a better year for Oregon sports? A lengthy list of accolades headlined by the football team winning the Rose Bowl, a second-straight acrobatics and tumbling collegiate title and two NIT wins for the basketball team is not over. And the potential for a strong finish is there: In addition to softball, both baseball and track are in good position to make a statement at nationals. Let us know if you can think of a better year than this one. @@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=205434423@@ @@http://www.goducks.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=500&SPID=235&SPSID=4294@@ @@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205421176&DB_OEM_ID=500@@
Ken is kept
After last week’s threatened hunger strike, the Powers That Be made the decision to retain Ken DeBevoise as a teacher for another year. We wrote about this at length last Thursday, but it’s good to see the right decision being made. We knew already from other people who had taken the class that Ken was superb, and the outpouring of support we’ve seen just affirms that. Here’s to another year with one of the best teachers at the University still being at the University. @@http://uoregon.edu/findpeople/person/Ken*DeBevoise@@

Small plane vanishes
According to the Associated Press, air and ground crews in southern Oregon and northern Nevada are unable to find a pilot who’s been missing since Thursday. Or, as the headline would describe it, a “Small plane vanishes over southern Oregon.” We don’t exactly know how to react to the news that Oregon has entered into the Bermuda Triangle. Only that it’s the only thing thumbs-down-worthy on a pretty awesome, calm Memorial Day weekend.
