Take a Minute is a daily post that will catch you up on Internet happenings on campus and around the world.
We’ve got signing day drama! The culmination of the recruiting cycle in which middle-aged college football nerds care way too much about what college a 18-year-old decides to attend. Writer Bruce Feldman famously (and appropriately) dubbed the recruiting process a “meat market.”
Every year a couple crazy stories pop up that tells the story of how ridiculous the entire process is. For example, Jordan Payton switched his commitment from California to Washington before ending up signing with UCLA. All within 48 hours. Or there’s Landon Collins, who announced for Alabama live on ESPN with his mother at his side shaking her head. She wanted her son to go to LSU and would later claim Alabama head coach Nick Saban offered Collins’ girlfriend a job in exchange for his commitment.
However, my favorite recruiting moment comes courtesy of Cassanova McKinzy. The star linebacker decided to commit to Auburn because there wasn’t a Chick-fil-A on the campus of his other top choice, Clemson.
No matter what college he attends, Cassanova McKinzy definitely belongs on the all-name team.
Signing day for Oregon was rather uneventful, though the Ducks did secure a last-minute commit from Texas speedster Bralon Addison. Watch this kid run — he has a little DAT in him:
Chip Kelly proclaimed his excitement about this year’s class to ESPN’s Jenn Brown:
In national news, Mitt Romney looked fabulous after being ‘glitter bombed’ by a protester during a rally in Minnesota.
Sparkles and all, Romney dominated the GOP primary in Florida and looks to be the frontrunner for the Republicans.
Some really cool graffiti from my homeland of Scotland:
