Housing sales on the rise
There is yet another sign the economy is beginning to recover, this time in the form of housing sales. Much of the growth in sales is being attributed to the homebuyer tax credit, which expired April 30, that gives first-time home buyers an $8,000 tax credit and repeat buyers as much as $6,500. That being said, economists are still wary. They maintain that until the economy shows solid gains in income and employment, we cannot fully claim to be out of the
recession. Still, positive gains are better than negative losses.

Violence in Jamaica
Violence between drug gang members and
security forces has killed 44 people in Jamaica. The cause of the violence is, in a roundabout way, America. Christopher “Dudus” Coke was charged last year in U.S. Federal Court with conspiracy to distribute marijuana and cocaine, as well as conspiracy to illegally traffic firearms. The gang members are fighting to prevent Coke’s extradition to the U.S., and the result has been bloodshed across the island. The U.S. should supply aid and perhaps manpower to help quell the violence and bring Coke to justice.
