The University of Oregon is honored to play in the Tostitos BCS National Championship Game Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz. Striving to ensure access to the opportunities, benefits and resources of the institution for all is integral to our core mission and academic plan. We have and will continue to stand with our communities to create a welcoming environment at the University for students, faculty, staff and external members, including those with immigrant family backgrounds.
We greatly encourage students’ school spirit, while understanding that for many in our community there are conflicted feelings given the political climate in Arizona regarding state immigration policies and the recently passed SB 1070, which is working its way through the courts. As we acknowledge the excitement of this national football championship, we encourage everyone to respect and educate one another about these complex issues.
