The Oregon Ducks soccer team lost again today in California to the No.2 Stanford Cardinal 2-1 to fall to 0-2-1 in the Pac-12 and 5-5-2 overall.
Both goals from the Cardinal came off of rebounds, one in the 38th minute, scored by Haley Rosen, and the other in the 58th minute, scored by Alex Doll@@http://www.osubeavers.com/sports/w-soccer/stats/2012-2013/12osu11.html@@. With the win, the Cardinal improve to 3-0 in Pac-12 play and sit atop the conference standings.
Like the loss to BYU, this too was bittersweet. True, the Ducks lost their third game in a row and this was an excellent opportunity to show grit and get what would have been a highly praised win, but they gave it their all and stuck with a very talented roster.
“We played very, very well today,” head coach Tara Erickson told GoDucks.com after the game. “Our backline and midfield did a terrific job limiting a very talented Cardinal team. We bounced back very strong from the loss on Friday to California and we look to take the positives from today’s game as we prepare for the Los Angeles schools at home next week.”
The sole goal for the Ducks came courtesy of senior midfielder Scout Libke@@http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=3705780@@ off of a free kick in the final minute of the first half to give her her second goal on the season.
The Ducks will look to right the ship this weekend when they play UCLA and USC at home where the passionate fans have cheered them on to a 4-1 record at the new Pape Field.
