Oregon football has its new coordinators.
The Ducks replaced new Kentucky head coach Will Stein and Cal head coach Tosh Lupoi with internal hires, they announced Thursday in a press release. Former co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Drew Mehringer is the new offensive coordinator, and co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Chris Hampton is the new defensive coordinator. Both have extensive experience under head coach Dan Lanning; Mehringer joined his initial staff in 2022 while Hampton was added to the fold the following season.
Oregon officially returned quarterback Dante Moore on Wednesday, giving Mehringer an experienced skill group to work with. Mehringer, who’s overseen strong Oregon tight end groups that included Terrance Ferguson and Kenyon Sadiq since he joined Oregon in 2022, will have a new starter at the position again in 2026 after Sadiq declared for the NFL Draft. It’s expected to be Louisville transfer Jamari Johnson, who shone in 2025 in a second-string role.
Mehringer was an offensive coordinator once before, in 2016 at Rutgers, but also served as the co-offensive coordinator under Stein last season as the Ducks’ offense put up the 10th-most points in FBS.
The defensive side of the ball returns several more contributors for Hampton to work with. After the Ducks replaced their entire secondary last season, they’re expected to bring back three of those five starters, plus their entire defensive line after A’Mauri Washington, Bear Alexander, Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti all passed on the NFL Draft in favor of staying in Eugene.
The Oregon defense under Lupoi finished 12th in scoring defense in 2025. Hampton served as Tulane’s defensive coordinator for two years before coming to Oregon in 2023.
