Week 2 means a break for No. 2 Oregon acrobatics and tumbling (1-0). The Ducks are idle and await No. 3 Quinnipiac University in their first home meet on Feb. 21. Elsewhere in the NCATA, though, there’s meets that have relevant results to Oregon’s season. Without competition this week in Eugene, here’s what to keep an eye on around the nation.
No. 1 Baylor University vs. No. 10 Azusa Pacific University (Feb. 13, 6:00 p.m. PT, Azusa, California)
The top-ranked Bears (1-0) started their season with a ranked win over No. 11 Saint Leo University on Feb. 6 — and it wasn’t particularly close. Now, they’ll move onto the No. 10 team in the nation, at the site of this year’s national championship. Azusa Pacific is starting its season on Friday, and it’ll face four ranked opponents this regular season. The Cougars finished last season 3-3, including a loss to Baylor in Waco, Texas, and didn’t qualify for the team national championship bracket.
In 2026, this early matchup is the Bears’ second-straight road meet to begin the season, after the Saint Leo battle that saw head coach Felecia Mulkey’s squad post a 10.0 score in the inversion pyramid. Expect Friday to be another test for the reigning champions. If Azusa Pacific can pull off the upset, it’ll turn both seasons upside down, but it doesn’t seem likely. Oregon won’t face the Cougars in the regular season this year, but will face Baylor twice.
No. 4 Iona University vs. Long Island University (Feb. 14, 3:00 p.m. PT, New Rochelle, New York)
There’s just one ranked matchup in the NCATA this week — that’s Baylor at Azusa Pacific. But Iona has an interesting meet to kick off its 2026 campaign on the road in New York. LIU has a new head coach in Tiara Stokes with a cheer background. Last season saw the Sharks rise as high as No. 14 in the NCATA Championship Rankings, but despite ending the year on a four-meet winning streak, they didn’t qualify for the team or event championships.
Iona, meanwhile, did the opposite after starting its 2025 season with wins in three of four meets but losing the final three, including an NCATA quarterfinal against No. 3 Quinnipiac, to fall to 3-4. The Gaels qualified for five event finals. In 2026, they’ll face the preseason No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 teams in a six-meet schedule — that means that an unranked loss could be a real issue in the postseason bracket.
Saturday, then, becomes a crucial opportunity for the Gaels to start with a win before hitting meets against Oregon, Baylor and Quinnipiac in March. Iona travels to Eugene on March 15; the Ducks don’t face LIU.
Around the NCATA
Teams around the nation are continuing to start their seasons; after this week, every top-15 team but Hawaii Pacific University (which has its first meet on Feb. 21) will have competed. No. 5 Augustana begins its year with a joint meet against Missouri State University and Presbyterian College. No. 6 Fairmont State University (2-0) faces Kutztown University. No. 8 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor opens with a meet against East Texas Baptist University. No. 12 Glenville State University (2-0) has a joint meet against Bluefield State University and West Virginia State University.
Earlier in the week, No. 7 Duquesne (1-0) faced West Liberty, whom it defeated 255.130-217.645. No. 11 Saint Leo (1-1) beat Montevallo University, 259.840-244.561 on Feb. 12, to rebound from its opening loss to Baylor. No. 14 Lander University (0-1) lost close to Wingate University, 252.365-251-925, and No. 15 La Salle earned its first-ever win over Morgan State University, 236.750-220.990.
Oregon remains idle until its second meet, on Feb. 21 against Quinnipiac.
