Oregon women’s tennis (6-1) shut out the University of California Riverside (2-6) 4-0 in a match where it proved to be the superior team across the board.
The Ducks showed some resilience early in the doubles round, which they would win 2-0.
Tilde Jagare and Olivia Symons were in a 1-1 tie to start before catching fire and running away with their match, 6-1.
Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto were trailing early but eventually tied it at four. That match would go unfinished.
Virginia Crocker and Hadley Appling also fell behind to start, but came back to tie it at two. They were still tied at five before merging ahead 7-5 to claim the doubles point for Oregon.
Entering singles, not much changed for either team.
Jagare was trailing early. She managed to keep it close before eventually tying it at five, but fell just short in a tiebreaker to lose her first round. The second round would not be played.
Symons jumped ahead early. Her opponent put up a small fight, but she had no problem taking her first round 6-2. Symons fell behind in her second round, but stayed in it and eventually tied it at four. The tie would not need to be settled.
Crocker found herself in a tight battle, which she was eventually able to pull ahead in and claim the first round 6-4. She took an early lead in her second round and dominated her opponent 6-0 to claim her match.
Patsy Daughters took an early lead and didn’t look back, winning her first round 6-2. She jumped ahead to start her second round as well and never gave her opponent a fighting chance. Daughters claimed her second round 6-0 to win her match.
Furutani fell behind early and could never catch up, dropping her first round 6-2. She had a battle in her second round, but it would go unfinished.
Bridget Mihulka was in a close one, and ultimately came out on top in her first round, 6-4. She had no trouble in her second round, running away with it 6-1 to win the match for the Ducks.
Oregon will take on Seattle University for the second match of the doubleheader this afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
