Oregon men’s tennis (9-3, 0-1 Big Ten) stood no chance against No. 11 Illinois (11-3, 1-0 Big Ten) when it was shut out 4-0 in its first Big Ten match. The Ducks battled in doubles with all three matches being decided by a tiebreaker.
Matthew Burton and Pierre Mouesca came out on top 7-6. Vlad Breazu and Declan Galligan had nothing left to show for once they got to the tiebreaker and lost 7-2. Cameron Burton and Lachlan Robertson fought hard throughout their match, but fell short 8-6 in the tiebreaker as the Fighting Illini took the doubles point 2-1.
Once the match got to singles, nothing went right for Oregon. Cameron Burton had absolutely nothing for his opponent as he was shut out 6-0 in both sets. Sam Olszakowski kept it close in the first set, but fell short 6-4. His opponent took full control in the second set, winning 6-2. Mouesca battled his opponent in both sets, but was defeated 6-4 each time as Illinois finished the shutout.
The Ducks travel up the road to Northwestern and take on the Wildcats March 8 at 9 a.m.
