No. 59 Oregon men’s tennis (13-8, 4-6 Big Ten) was no match for the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes (23-3, 9-1 Big Ten) in a 4-0 shutout loss on the road. Between doubles and singles, no Oregon player or pair won a set. The unfinished doubles match and two unfinished singles matches were tied when the match was called, but no one in a Ducks uniform was able to gain an advantage. As Oregon falls another game below .500 in Big Ten play after starting 4-1, its hopes of making a tournament run are becoming less and less likely.
The Buckeyes wasted no time getting on the board with a 2-0 win in doubles. Matthew Burton and Pierre Mouesca showed some fight in their match, but were simply outplayed in a 6-3 loss. Vlad Breazu and Declan Galligan were neck-in-neck with their opponents, but they would not finish as they were tied at four when doubles was called. Cameron Burton and Sam Olszakowski also showed some promise in their match, but could not overcome their opponents in a 6-3 loss.
Entering singles, not much changed.
Russell Soohoo stood no chance in his match. He was able to get on the board a couple times, but was defeated 6-1 in each of the first two sets.
Olszakowski put up a bit of a battle in his first set, but was still defeated 6-3. In the second set, his opponent took over, winning 6-1 to end their match.
Mouesca was able to get on the board in each of his sets, but his opponent maintained full control, winning 6-2 in both to give Ohio State the match.
The Ducks travel to Penn State to take on the Nittany Lions April 12 at 8 a.m.
