On Wednesday, Oregon men’s golf placed ninth at the 79th Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, California with Aiden Krafft leading the charge with a 15th place finish individually.
Krafft opened the tournament with a slow start, shooting two-over on three bogeys over the first 18 holes. He bounced back with a dominant five-under performance coming off of two eagles on holes six and nine and five birdies through 18. That second round couldve pushed Krafft into the top part of the leaderboards if it werent for back-to-back double bogeys on holes 15 and 16 to close out the round in eighth place.
His third round started off rocky with three bogeys through the first five holes, but he managed to control the damage with a birdie on holes six, nine and 13 to finish with an overall score of two-under par and a 15th place finish.
Ramil Saelim had a decent outing, finishing in 30th place with an overall score of one-over par. After opening the tournament with two and one-over par finishes in the first two rounds, he bounced back with a two-under par third round to shoot up from 42nd to 30th place.
Casper Nerpin (46th place) and Sebastian Desoisa (55th place) rounded out the higher scores for the Ducks with final scores of five and seven-over par, respectively. Nerpin started the tournament strong, finishing the second round in 35th place. Things fell apart in the final round after shooting five-over par and dropping 20 spots in the final standings.
The bottom half of the box score for Oregon was one to forget with Jeffery Kwak (+11), Kyreece Romero (+14) and Oscar Lent (individual, +16) all shooting over 10-over par. The worst round came in the first with Romero and Lent both shooting nine-over par.
The Ducks have some time to regroup with the Big Ten Championship two weeks away on May 1, but a performance like this is not indicative of a contending team.
