Oregon women’s soccer (0-16-3, 0-10-1) will end its season winless for the first time in program history after a 0-2 loss against Oregon State (4-8-7, 1-6-4) on Friday.
The Ducks entered the final game of their season coming off a 2-2 draw against Washington State. In that match, Ajanae Respass equalized in the second half to earn Oregon its first point of the Pac-12 season.
There was some hope for the Ducks to get their first win in their final game of the season. They appeared to have gained momentum in their previous outing and the Beavers’ also came into the game with a winless conference record.
One team would finish the evening with its first Pac-12 win. It wasn’t the Ducks.
Oregon’s offense didn’t get off to a strong start. In the first half, Oregon State outshot it 17-2 and attempted five corners.
Then, in the 11th minute, Megan Turi found the bottom right of the goal to give the Beavers the lead.
Oregon State had an opportunity to make it two around the 32nd minute, but the cross was off. The Ducks responded by giving themselves more chances in their attacking third, but couldn’t find the equalizer.
Oregon came into the second half aggressive, though. Only a couple of minutes in, it had its first corner of the match. The delivery nearly led to a goal.
The Ducks were much more active in the second half, but they weren’t efficient with their opportunities. The Beavers eventually made them pay in the 60th minute. Katie Godden fired the ball from the middle of Oregon’s defensive third to tack on a second goal for Oregon State.
The Ducks never quit battling to get back in the game. Despite the many lows the group has faced this season, their relentless fight has never wavered. A win just wasn’t in the cards for a team with 15 freshmen and neither was a comeback against the Beavers.
Oregon will now look to regroup as it hits the offseason and prepares for a conference move to the Big Ten in 2024.
