ASUO will host a campus rally and forum tomorrow afternoon aimed at fighting a proposed 4.7 percent tuition increase for the 2016-2017 school year.
The rally will begin at 2:15 p.m. in front of Johnson Hall. Following the rally, the group will then move to the EMU Gumwood Room to participate in a forum at 3 p.m.
The forum will feature a discussion with the University of Oregon Tuition and Fees Advisory Board about the possible tuition hike. Students are invited to take part in this forum and share their thoughts on the tuition increase, as the vote to increase tuition was taken by the TFAB without a vote from the undergraduate students.
“We will discuss our demands for the administration and attend the forum in solidarity!,” the event’s Facebook page said. “If students don’t show up, administration will think that we’re complacent and that they can raise our tuition without us having a say.”
TFAB is scheduled to present the 4.7 percent tuition increase to UO Provost Scott Coltrane on Feb. 8.
In March of last year, the UO Board of Trustees approved a 3.7 percent tuition increase for the 2015-2016 school year.
More to come.
