Oregon soccer assistant coach Manny Martins has been promoted to associate head coach of the program.
The announcement came Wednesday from head coach Kat Mertz in a news release.
This past season, the Ducks finished 8-10-2. It was Martins’ third year with the program. It was the program’s best season since Martins joined the coaching staff at Oregon. The Ducks scored 26 goals this season, which is the most since they scored 29 in the 2010 season.
Martins brought a strong coaching resume to Oregon. He currently serves as the assistant coach of the United States Women’s U17 team. His responsibilities include evaluating and training some of the best young prospects in the United States.
“Manny has been an integral part of Oregon soccer and our success,” Mertz said in a news release. “He is extremely valuable to my staff and to our program.”
He served as an assistant coach at UCLA from 2011-13 before coming to Oregon, helping lead the Bruins to the quarterfinals of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. He has also served as the director of coaching and player development for Los Angeles Premier FC in 2006. He was named head coach of the WPSL team in 2010, in which he won coach of the year honors.
