— Emerald reporter Jack Butler takes a look at the legacy left by Oregon track star Edward Cheserek. He ran the Pac-12 Championships in what would be his last race due to a lower back strain that ended his final collegiate season early. Cheserek leaves Oregon with a total of 17 NCAA titles, the highest amassed by any collegiate runner across cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. Cheserek signed with an agent, Total Sports US, last week.
— Collegiate Baseball released its All-America teams and two Oregon players made the list. Junior pitcher David Peterson was named as a first-team selection and freshman closer Kenyon Yovan was selected as a second-team pick. Peterson is Oregon’s only first-team player since the return of baseball in 2009. Yovan is Oregon’s first freshman to make an All-American list.
— The Pac-12 announced game times for the first three games on the Oregon football schedule. The season gets underway at 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 2 against Southern Utah at Autzen Stadium. The game will be played on Pac-12 Networks. Game times for Nebraska and Wyoming were also announced.
— The Oregon golf team lost in the NCAA Championship round to the Oklahoma Sooners last week. The Ducks were hoping to win back-to-back championships after winning the first in school history last season. On Monday, Norman Xiong was named 2017 Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award winner.
— Erin Boley, who was the No. 5 overall player in the class of 2016 according to espnW, announced she will transfer from Notre Dame to join the Oregon women’s basketball team. She will have to sit out a year, but will have three seasons of eligibility beginning with the 2018-19 season.
— Softball’s season came to an end on Sunday with a 4-2 loss to the Oklahoma Sooners. The Ducks finished the season with a 54-8 record.
