No. 67 Oregon women’s tennis (10-4, 1-1 Big Ten) made its debut in the Top 75 with a confident 4-0 win over No. 61 Washington State (7-6) for its second straight sweep of a ranked opponent. After struggling early in the season against top tier opponents, the Ducks seem to be finding their ground with the bulk of Big Ten play still to come.
The Ducks got going immediately with a 2-0 win in doubles. Patsy Daughters and Bridget Mihulka took care of their opponents 6-2. Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto were in a tight match, but it would go unfinished. Tilde Jagare and Olivia Symons had some competition from their opponents, but held their ground for a 6-3 win to claim doubles point.
Oregon kept the momentum going into singles, where Daughters crushed her opponent, winning 6-2 in the first set. The second set told a similar story with Daughters cruising to a 6-1 win to claim her match.
Furutani had similar success in her match. Her opponent showed some fight in the first set, but she was unfazed in a 6-3 win. Furutani took over in the second set, winning 6-1 to claim her match.
Mihulka was in a battle with her opponent, but pulled ahead for a 6-4 win. Her opponent still had some fight left in the second set, but Mihulka had the advantage, winning 6-3 to claim the match for Oregon.
The Ducks return to action tomorrow, March 14, when they host the Washington Huskies at noon.
