After falling short in doubles, No. 46 Oregon men’s tennis (13-3, 4-1 Big Ten) had no trouble rebounding in singles in a 4-1 road victory over rivals Washington Huskies (7-10, 1-4 Big Ten). The Ducks were right there in doubles, but when they fell short, it became their fuel in the rest of the match.
A very tight doubles set saw the Huskies take the slight advantage in a 2-1 win. Mathew Burton and Pierre Mouesca had the advantage in their match. There was some fight from their opponents, but they stood strong for the 6-3 win.
Vlad Breazu and Declan Galligan put up a fight in their match, but could not overcome their opponents in a 6-4 loss. Lachlan Robertson and Cameron Burton had a similar fate in their match. They battled hard, but also fell short 6-4 in the end as Washington claimed the doubles point.
In singles, Oregon took over. Breazu had some competition in his match but his opponent still couldn’t catch him on his way to a 6-3 win in each of the first two sets to get Oregon on the board.
Burton had no trouble in his match. His opponent showed some fight in the first set, but he still held the upper hand to win 6-3. In the second set, Burton fully took over, winning 6-1 to claim his match.
Russell Soohoo was in a very tight battle. The first set was neck in neck from the start and was tied at five before Soohoo pulled ahead for the 7-5 win. The second set was also close, but Soohoo was unfazed as he inched ahead for a 6-4 win to clinch his match.
Mouesca went back and forth with his opponent. He got off to a slow start, losing 6-2 in his first set. The script flipped in the second set as Mouesca dominated his way to a 6-1 win. In the final set, both sides were firing hard. Their match would be decided by a tiebreaker, where Mouesca emerged victorious, 7-6 to win the match for Oregon.
The Ducks continue their road trip March 27, when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers at 3:30 p.m.
