For the second day in a row, No. 60 Oregon women’s tennis (11-10, 2-7 Big Ten) could not put anything together in its 4-0 loss to the No. 12 USC Trojans (15-5, 8-1 Big Ten). From the opening serve in doubles to the final point in singles, USC showed the Ducks why it’s a top-15 team and was in control from top to bottom.
The Trojans wasted no time getting on the board, winning doubles 2-0. Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto could not find any answers as they were shut out 6-0. Tilde Jagare and Olivia Symons had some promising moments in their match, but were still defeated 6-3 to give USC the doubles point.
In singles, not much changed as Oregon won a total of two sets, neither of which came in matches that were completed.
Virginia Crocker had a little bit of hope in her first set, but was still dominated in a 6-2 loss. In the second set, her opponent took over, winning 6-0 to give the Trojans another point.
Bridget Mihulka had similar luck in her match. She stayed in it a little longer, but was still defeated 6-2 in each of her first two sets.
Symons, like most of her teammates, struggled in her first set. She also lost 6-2 before coming alive in her second set. She and her opponent were tied at five, but her opponent had the upper hand to pull away with a 7-5 win to give USC the match.
The Ducks return home April 10, when they host the Wisconsin Badgers at 1 p.m.
