No. 70 Oregon women’s tennis (12-12, 3-9 Big Ten) could not get anything to bounce its way when it visited the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes (20-3, 11-1 Big Ten). The Ducks won a total of one set between doubles and singles as they were shut out 4-0 by a top 5 opponent.
The Ducks fought with their opponents in doubles, but none of them had enough to come out on top as they were defeated 2-0.
Hinata Furutani and Juliet Santitto had some juice in them, but were defeated 6-3. It was the same story for Tilde Jagare and Olivia Symons. They were in their match at first, but were defeated 6-3 to give the Buckeyes the doubles point.
In singles, OSU only got better.
Virginia Crocker could not keep up with her opponent. She won a game here and there, but was defeated 6-1 in each of her first two sets.
Santitto stayed in her match a little bit longer, but was still far from winning. She was defeated 6-2 in her first two sets.
Jagare was the only Oregon player to not lose a set. She narrowly escaped her first set with a 7-5 win. She was trailing in her second set, but it would not be finished.
Furutani had some hope in her first set, but her opponent stood her ground to win 6-3. In the second set, Furutani’s opponent took over, winning 6-1 to claim the match for Ohio State.
The Ducks travel to Penn State to close out the regular season against the Nittany Lions April 19 at 8 a.m.
