PORTLAND, Ore. — On Jan. 25, Portland’s iconic Sports Bra hosted a welcome party for the Cherry Bombs. The Cherry Bombs are a new USLW team gearing up to start their first-ever season in May 2026.
While crowds filled the bar, future Bombs sat together by the entrance alongside Under Armour sports bras. The team hosted games throughout the night, asking guests how many cherries they could fit in their bra cups and trivia questions.
Courtney Schmidt, the team’s general manager, shared her excitement about the team and the Under Armour collaboration. She explained that the beauty of Portland is rooted in the city’s collaborative spirit.
Schmidt added that she is thrilled to see the bar filled with so many fans, especially those wearing Cherry Bombs merchandise, adding that the team has signed some players and will be making announcements in the coming months.
Under Armour also offered its expertise by fitting and recommending bras based on performance styles. The UA team also helped educate the crowd on breast and bra education.
Carly Jones-Hershinow, a Ph.D. student at the University of Portsmouth and a breast biomechanics researcher for Under Armour, helped make the collaboration happen between the Bombs and UA.
“The idea of working with a local Portland team is really exciting,” Jones-Hershinow said. “I think it’s just an incredible movement of women’s sports coming to town.”
Cherry Bombs merchandise continued to fill the bar, with fans excited to root for another women’s soccer team this summer.
