Dillon Thieneman’s game-clinching interception seals the win for the Ducks, who improve to 5-0 heading into their bye week before facing Indiana at home.
Live Updates: Ducks win 2OT thriller
The Ducks win it in 2OT
Dante Moore makes another play.
Facing third-and-3, Dante Moore completes an out to Gary Bryant. Big-time play.
TOUCHDOWN, NITTANY LIONS: Drew Allar finds Devonte Ross for 35-yard score
The offense was too quick. Drew Allar, with time, finds Devonte Ross — who sped past Dillon Thieneman with a quick cut — in the right corner of the endzone for a 35-yard score.
After the PAT, Oregon leads 17-10 with 10:30 left.
Penn State is moving.
After a couple of quick explosives, Penn State is inside the Oregon 40-yard line. Ducks defense looking for a stand.
TOUCHDOWN, OREGON: Jordon Davison punches it in, puts Ducks up 17-3
After the break, Lanning comes back with Jordon Davison (another true freshman). He breaks the line and punches it all the way in. Dan Lanning is fired up.
A massive inflection point.
Dante Moore called his own number on third-and-10 from the Penn State 17-yard line, and with Oregon in fourth-and-1, the Ducks initially decide to go — but call a timeout.
Huge third-down conversion (guess who)
It’s the Moore-to-Moore connection once again in a crucial spot, as Dante rolls right and floats a 29-yard pass to the (TRUE FRESHMAN!) Dakorien. Ducks set up inside the Penn State 20.
END THIRD QUARTER: Oregon 10-3 Penn State
Ducks head to the final break — this game is zipping by — with the ball on the Penn State 46-yard line.
15 more minutes to decide this one.
Dierre Hill Jr. is on fire.
After the touchdown, Oregon keeps handing the ball to Hill, who runs for 11, nine and three yards on the opening plays of the drive.
He’s up to 82 yards on eight rushing attempts, and 12 receiving yards on two catches.
Allar and Penn State go three-and-out
Its a swift departure from the field for the home side — and Allar, under pressure, hucked it into pressure on third down and off the hands of safety Aaron Flowers. Nittany Lions punt, Oregon with the ball at its own 25, up 10-3.
TOUCHDOWN, DUCKS. Oregon leads, 10-3
After the Whittington fumble was reversed, it’s Hill Jr. who gets the ball from a well-designed, well-blocked screen and punches it in from the 8-yard line.
What a change of fortunes for the Ducks, who lead, 10-3, after Sappington hits the extra point.
Another swing.
Huge break for the Ducks — Whittington was ruled down. Second and goal.
With Ducks in goal-to-go, Whittington fumbles.
With Oregon in goal-to-go for the first time on Saturday, it’s Whittington who gets the ball and bounces wide — but fumbles. It’s returned near midfield, Moore made the tackle on Zakee Wheatley, and it’s a huge swing.
Play is in video review during a commercial break.
Thunder and Lightning combine for 24-yard strike
Jordon Davison hit his block and Dierre Hill Jr. skirted up the sideline for a 24-yard gain. The two freshmen have both of the Ducks’ two rushing explosives of the night.
Dante Moore’s turn.
After Drew Allar made several off-platform throws in the first half, it’s Moore who comes up big this time with the Ducks in third-and-long. Big, 23-yard completion to Kenyon Sadiq resets the chains and sets Oregon up at midfield. Injury timeout for PSU star edge rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton, who also felt he was held on the previous play.
Teitum Tuioti comes up big.
Teitum Tuioti gets his second stop of the drive on Allar to force the Nittany Lions in a punt at the Oregon 36. Interesting decision, goes through the endzone, Ducks get it at their own 25.
Penn State can run the ball now
After 24 first-half yards, Penn State put up 22 already midway through its first drive of the half. Started going laterally, it’s working. Teitum Tuioti wraps Allar up on a boot, 2-yard sack, but Singleton goes the other way.
Back for more
Penn State gets the ball on its own 25-yard line to kick off the second half. More points? Less points? Let’s find out.
Stat(s) of the half
Total yards: Oregon – 189; Penn State – 69
Yards per carry: Oregon – 4.3; Penn State – 1.8
10-plus yard plays: Oregon – 2; Penn State – 1
Total plays: Oregon – 40; Penn State – 25
Score: Oregon – 3; Penn State – 3
Halftime.
After the holding penalty, Dante Moore converts short to Dakorien Moore, but the Ducks elect to let the clock run on third-and-13 down to the 9-second mark before taking a timeout.
Oregon takes a shot, converts short again, and the clock runs out.
END HALF 1: OREGON 3-3 PENN STATE
Two-minute drill stalls.
Isaiah World is called for holding, backs the Ducks up to first-and-20 after Dante Moore strung a few nice plays together.
Ducks get it back; Moore in a one-minute drill.
Back-to-back incompletions by Allar intended for USC transfer Kyron Hudson on either sideline lead to a punt. Gary Bryant fair catches at Oregon’s 10-yard line, and it’ll be Dante Moore in a one-minute drill to end the half.
Drew Allar makes another play — but this time its a PSU penalty.
Allar, under pressure and on his back foot, makes a long cross-hash throw to get Penn State out of third-and-8. 14 yards to Devonte Ross, now at the Oregon 46-yard line. It’s a flag on the play, though, and they’re backed up.
Two-minute timeout: 3-3
Penn State, on its own 38, chooses not to snap the ball before the two-minute timeout. It’ll come back after the break with a fresh set of downs and a couple minutes to try to take the lead.
Ducks try another field goal, convert, tie game 3-3
Dante Moore tried to flex his arm on third-and-4, but overthrew it. Sappington comes on again, converts from 42. Ducks and Nittany Lions tied at 3 after 10 plays, 51 yards. 3:42 in the half. Defensive battle!
Ducks go play-action on fourth down, convert
With Jordon Davison in the backfield, Oregon went play action on fourth down and Moore hits Moore — but he could’ve had him for a potential touchdown with a better throw. Missed opportunity.
Drew Allar can’t complete, Ducks get the ball back
Allar sailed a pass over the head of his receiver on third-and-7, and it’s another punt for the Nittany Lions. Oregon to get the ball back on its own 25-yard line.
Oregon gets its first reward from pressure
Matayo Uiagalelei gets a 2-yard sack on Drew Allar — first of the night for the Ducks.
Moore scrambles into field goal range, Sappington misses from 47.
Dante Moore used his legs again to get the Ducks into fourth-and-short inside the 30-yard line, but this time it’s a field goat attempt. Oregon kicker Atticus Sappington blinks first, misses wide left from 47 yards out.
Still 3-0 Penn State, 9:36 to play in the second quarter.
Ducks convert on fourth down
Ducks go for it (again), convert (again). It’s Malik Benson, who gets the first down from a Dante Moore pass.
Dierre Hill Jr. and Jordon Davison combine for an explosive
True freshman Dierre Hill Jr. followed a Jordon Davison block 24 yards for the Ducks’ first real explosive of the game. Now inside Penn State’s half.
Penn State: 49-yard field goal, 3-0 lead
Penn State kicker Ryan Barker hits from 49 yards after Allar is hurried and flushed right on third-and-4. Nittany Lions on the board, leading 3-0, with 13:26 to play in the half.
Boettcher flies around in the first quarter
Bryce Boettcher, who had nine first-half tackles last week against Oregon State, already has four after the first quarter — including one to take care of a huge outside-zone hole for Singleton. Nittany Lions in third-and-8 when the first quarter ends — still scoreless in University Park.
Allar makes a play, then Singleton.
Drew Allar steps up in the pocket late and, slipping, delivers a ball to Singleton over the middle to get Penn State out of third-and-16. Singleton carries for the first down quickly on fourth-and-1
Penn State offense gets creative?
Drew Allar just attempted a brave screen throw into a couple of Ducks that just barely sailed over A’Mauri Washington’s hands. As it is, Washington and Boettcher converge on the receiver and get him eight yards behind the chains. Nick Singleton gets his first carry for two yards, and it’s third-and-16.
Ducks go again; this time it’s a no-go.
Third fourth down try from Dan Lanning and the Ducks in no-man’s-land is no good — Moore went with his legs again after reading his progressions and finding nothing. He throws an early spin move, but is hit hard before he gets the line to gain. Penn State ball near midfield, still 0-0. It is, as they say, a “defensive battle.”
Dante Moore Shows No Fear
Oregon goes for fourth-and-1 for the second time in two drives. This time, no false start, and it’s a Dante Moore QB keeper for the first down.
Nittany Lions go three-and-out on first drive.
That was quick. Ducks stuff the run twice, force Penn State into third-and-5, and Allar can’t take advantage of Bryce Boettcher in man coverage on wide receiver Kyron Hudson as he motions across the formation. Incomplete. Punt. Ducks at their own 32.
First drive for the Ducks: some good, some bad.
Oregon goes a few first downs, but false starts on fourth down and ends up punting it away. Ducks look like they’re able to run the ball, and Dante Moore was able to flex his arm with some in-rhythm throws to the flats and sidelines — but Oregon gets no points and hands the Nittany Lions the ball.
Ducks go for it on 4th-and-one…but
Jordon Davison gets the first down, but it’s a false start, and Oregon will punt. James Ferguson-Reynolds on for Oregon, sends it away, Ducks make the tackle inside the Penn State 20-yard line.
Kenyon Sadiq does Kenyon Sadiq things
Kenyon Sadiq picks right back up where he left off at Lucas Oil Stadium last December with a hurdle. Ha.
Oregon gets a play off.
Ducks overcome the noise, Noah Whittington gets a first down right away off the handoff from Moore.
Penn State wins toss, defers
Oregon will have the ball first. Feels like that’s what both teams would’ve wanted.
Pinch yourself.
The Penn State Blue Band is wrapping up pregame. Almost time for kickoff.
Score predictions, anyone?
Availability report in: RB Noah Whittington officially off the injury list
After missing back-to-back games against Northwestern and Oregon State, running back Noah Whittington, who started for the Ducks before being sidelined by an unspecified injury, is off the injury report in State College. WR Kyler Kasper is added.
