The Portland Police Bureau sent officers in riot gear to the scene at 9:14 p.m. after the aforementioned altercations. Officers did not clarify their intent, although they left the scene shortly after at 9:40 p.m..

By 11:30 p.m., the crowd shrunk to approximately 20 protesters. The Daily Emerald reporters observed the peaceful group of protesters in front of the facility get hit with three canisters of tear gas at 11:50 p.m..

At 8:40 p.m., two protestors got into a brawl, falling on the floor and causing ICE agents to shoot pepper balls at them.

Shortly after, a crowd formed around the two, breaking up the fight. ICE continued to shoot at protestors until they dispersed.

A counterprotestor also infiltrated the crowd, starting another fight. A protester was seen throwing water at the counterprotestor, causing them to use mace.

The counterprotester left the ICE facility and approached a cop car nearby to allegedly report the incident.

PORTLAND — On Jan. 31, several unions, including Communications Workers of America, Service Employees International Union and the Democratic Socialists of America, hosted a march and rally following the national strike on Jan. 30. The event started at Elizabeth Caruthers Park and moved toward the ICE facility on Macadam Avenue.

Approximately 1,000 participants had taken the street over. At 4:40 p.m., the crowd was met with tear gas, HC smoke and orange smoke bombs. The crowd was gassed again at 5:47 p.m., and once more at 6:30 p.m..

Multiple flags were also being burned throughout the night, including one Israeli flag and multiple American flags.
