A University of Oregon student identified as 21-year-old Elizabeth Cardenas Figueroa died Aug. 18 after she was struck by a car while riding her bicycle on Hilyard Avenue, Aug. 8, the university confirmed Wednesday.
According to a GoFundMe page set up for Figueroa, she suffered a traumatic brain injury in the crash. The fundraiser has collected nearly $10,000 in the past week.
Eugene Police Department spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin confirmed Figueroa’s death and said the investigation is still ongoing.
UO spokesperson Angela Seydel said the university is providing Figueroa’s family with support services.
The university is also providing the following support services for students:
- University Counseling Services is open until 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and offers 24-hour crisis support via phone; 541-346-3227.
- Duck Nest at E245 University Health Services provides a place for students to practice self-care and life-balance. It is staffed by Peer Wellness Advocates.
