UPDATE: Oregon officially announced Boley’s transfer in a Wednesday morning news release.
“Erin is the whole package when it comes to being a great teammate, a hard worker, an amazing student and a talented player,” head coach Kelly Graves said. “She is a competitor and a winner in every sense.”
Erin Boley, who spent her freshman year at Notre Dame and was espnW’s No. 5 overall player in the 2016 class, has committed to the Oregon women’s basketball program.
Boley, who also visited Stanford and Vanderbilt, was ranked one spot behind Oregon freshman of the year guard Sabrina Ionescu in the recruiting rankings.
“I kind of knew what I was looking for this time around,” Boley said in an interview with the Emerald. “I loved my visit to Oregon. I was just there this past weekend. I felt like I fit in perfectly with the team and loved Coach (Kelly) Graves and all the coaches. I felt like it’s a good place for me to make my new home and I feel like Oregon’s the school for me this time around.”
The 6-foot-2 forward will have to sit one year due to NCAA rules but is eligible to play beginning with the 2018-19 season. She will have three years of eligibility left.
Boley cited Oregon’s family environment as key factor in her decision. The Ducks’ run to the Elite Eight caught her attention as well.
“I think the Ducks have a bright future for sure,” Boley said. “I felt like I fit in really well and I could see myself going to school there. The players and the coaches were the deciding factor.”

Boley — a Hodgenville, Kentucky, native — announced in April that she would transfer from Notre Dame.
“The [recruiting] process was definitely different this time around,” Boley said. “I’m glad I made a decision.”
Her high school accolades are impressive. She was a McDonald’s All-American and the Gatorade national player of the year while averaging 20.7 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, three assists as a senior.
“She’s a complete player,” Kentucky Premier coach David Tapley said. “This kid can play back to the basket, she can take you off the dribble, shoot the 3-pointer and she’s a 4.0 kid. She’s a gym rat. She’s a kid that wants to be pushed and she’s a winner.”
Boley played in 37 of Notre Dame’s games last year, starting in 10 of them. She averaged 6.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 15 minutes a game for Notre Dame, which advanced to the Elite Eight.
Boley hopes to study product design at Oregon.
“I really liked the school itself,” Boley said.
Correction: A previous version of this post misstated Boley’s first year of eligibility. She will be able to play for Oregon during the 2018-19 season.
