Eugene police have charged a man following a crash that closed eastbound Franklin Boulevard at East 11th Avenue Friday evening.
The van driver, 38-year-old Franklin Winter Aurich III, was charged with 10 counts, including DUII, felony hit and run, three counts of second-degree assault, driving while suspended and reckless driving. Aurich was transported to the hospital following the crash before being lodged at Lane County Jail.
Jail records show Aurich is still in custody.
The crash between an SUV and a Ford Econoline van occurred shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.
Eugene police closed eastbound Franklin Boulevard at East 11th Avenue following the two-vehicle crash involving a white van and a black SUV. Traffic was also closed on eastbound Broadway Avenue, with police redirecting drivers southbound on Alder Street.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the van attempt to flee the scene before being held down by bystanders prior to police arrival.
Police arrived and took the driver of the van into custody at East 11th Avenue and Kincaid Street, less than a block west of the crash, at around 5:15 p.m., according to EPD spokesperson Melinda McLaughlin.
The crash resulted in three occupants of the SUV being transported to Riverbend Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash impacted traffic on Franklin Boulevard and East Broadway Avenue for nearly an hour and a half before being cleared.
