Story and Photos by Kevin Bronk
Eugene’s winter clouds broke Sunday afternoon and made way for partially blue skies and mild temperatures for the 14th Annual Truffle Shuffle, a fundraiser put on by Committed Partners for Youth. The shuffle took place in Alton Baker Park and attracted more than 2,000 community members, eager to participate in one of two races (one two and one four miles).
Before the big races began, the little ones had the opportunity to participate in a kid’s fun run. After walking, running or skipping the race, all participants, little or large, were able to indulge in a free truffle from Euphoria Chocolate Company. The Shuffle is held annually the Sunday prior to Valentine’s Day.
The event aimed to raise awareness and money for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lane County, which pairs youth with adult mentors. Organizers hoped to raise $30,000, all of which goes towards finding mentors. To learn more about Committed Partners for Youth, visit http://www.committedpartners.org/.
