The University of Oregon has been awarded a grant from the Department of Education to renew the National Technical Assistance Center on Transition: Collaborative program to continue efforts to help youth with disabilities transition into the workforce.
Originally housed by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for the past five years, UO became the lead for the project for the upcoming renewal.
This transition marks a significant development for UO, as it holds itself nationally on the efforts to build support systems for students with disabilities.
When speaking to Deanne Unruh, NTACT:C’s fiscal lead, she said “Our charge is to improve programming for students and youth with disabilities in each of the states specifically to prepare these students for post-secondary education, training and the foremost competitive integrated employment.”
NTACT:C focuses on helping states, educators and over 13 technical assistance areas to enhance transition programming for students preparing for life after high school.
By building on past achievements, NTACT:C aims to create more equitable opportunities for youth with disabilities as they pursue education and meaningful careers
As UO steps into this leadership role, the renewed program is expected to expand its horizons and continue developing strategies that support student success nationwide.
