Despite having missed Oregon’s last eight games with knee injuries, Oregon point guard Nia Jackson was named to the Pacific-10 Conference women’s basketball first team Tuesday.
The Seattle native averaged 17.0 points and 5.7 assists in 21 games for Oregon, leading the team in both categories. Jackson, the 23rd Duck to receive All-Pac-10 first team honors, was also named Most Valuable Player at the team’s annual banquet.
Forward Amanda Johnson earned Pac-10 honorable mention honors for the second consecutive season after posting 15.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Both marks are in the top five in the conference.
Forward Deanna Weaver was named to the Pac-10 honorable mention freshman team. The Santa Clara, Calif., native has averaged 6.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in 27 games, with eight starts.
Stanford forwards Jeanette Pohlen and Chiney Ogwumike earned the Pac-10 Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards, respectively. Their head coach, Tara VanDerveer, was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year after guiding the Cardinal to an undefeated conference season.
Arizona forward Ify Ibekwe was named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year.
