“Stealing Time” made its Oregon premiere at the McMenamins Kennedy School in Portland on Friday night. It will continue to show there throughout the week.
The film, produced by University alumnus Michael Garrity, is about four friends newly out of college who try to make their way in the world as one friend deals with his impending death.
Garrity, a graduate of the University’s School of Journalism and Communication, said the idea for the story was first hatched when he was bartending his way through college at Rennie’s Landing in Eugene.
Garrity will be in Eugene to promote the film Nov. 5. There will be a hometown premier of the movie Nov. 7.
“Stealing Time” premiered on Oct. 3 in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. The film features performances by Peter Facinelli, Ethan Embry, Scott Foley, Charlotte Ayanna and Jennifer Garner.
Garrity said even though many of the characters in the film carry some of his traits, the film is not autobiographical and none of the characters is based entirely on one person from his life.
“There is a lot of reality in there… a name from one person and an experience from another,” Garrity said.
He added that he drew from many of the experiences and friendships he had during his time at the University.
