A 29-year-old homeless man who led public safety officers on a foot chase through campus and later admitted to distributing methamphetamine on campus was arrested and charged with possession of meth early Thursday morning, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Eugene police cited Jason Allen Hoy for second-degree possession of a controlled substance and released him.
Just after midnight, Hoy led DPS officer Scott Cameron on a short foot chase from a parking lot near Agate Street and Franklin Boulevard to the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and Onyx Street, according to a report from DPS. The man had been hiding in a bush near the parking lot, the report stated.
DPS officer Royce Myers said Hoy threw down a bike and started running after Cameron contacted him. Myers and DPS Sgt. Lonnie Ekstrom cut off Hoy, who was shirtless and had been throwing items in the bushes as he fled, according to the report. As he ran, the man clutched a black CD case.
Myers found a meth pipe in Hoy’s pants, the report stated, and marijuana and two baggies of meth in the CD case.
Myers said the man admitted to distributing meth around campus.
