An unidentified person threw an egg at a Lane Transit District bus, and the egg flew past an open window and splattered on the face of a bus driver last Thursday around 9 p.m. west of the University.
The egg hit the driver of route 24 at the corner of West 18th Avenue and Willamette Street, and he was sent to Sacred Heart Medical Center with a swollen eye, LTD spokeswoman Angie Sifuentez said. The driver was sent home to recover.
Sifuentez said the incident was unusual because people sometimes throw eggs at buses around Halloween. She added that this was the first time in recent memory that an egg actually hit a driver.
LTD requested Eugene police to the scene because LTD wanted to file a police report, Sifuentez said. She added that if the egg thrower is found, assault charges will be pressed.
LTD drivers will continue to keep windows open to allow fresh air into the bus, Sifuentez said.
