WNBA workouts
Former Oregon basketball player Edniesha Curry is off to Chicago to participate in the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp this Friday and Saturday at the Moody Bible Institute.
The 80 WNBA hopefuls, composed of players from more than 60 colleges and universities, will showcase their skills during the two-day combine.
Curry, an honorable mention All-Pac-10 selection this past year, averaged 9.8 points, 3.3 assists and led the team with 1.9 steals per game. The 5-foot-6 point guard helped Oregon (22-13) win the WNIT championship in March.
All 16 WNBA teams will be scouting players in preparation for the WNBA Draft, which begins at 8:30 a.m. April 19 at the NBA Entertainment studios in Secaucus, N.J. For the second straight year, ESPN2 will nationally televise the event, and additional live coverage will be provided on NBA TV and WNBA.com.
Curry, who starred for three years at Cal State Northridge before transferring to Oregon in 2000, will try to become the third player in school history to be drafted by the WNBA. Last year, Jenny Mowe was the first draftee in Oregon history as the Portland Fire made her the 20th overall pick in the second round. Also, the Cleveland Rockers chose Angelina Wolvert with the 43rd overall pick in the third round.
WNBA training camps will open April 29 at teams’ respective training facilities, while the preseason begins May 9 and the regular season May 25.
