The Eugene Police Department spent Friday and Saturday nights patrolling the West University neighborhood citing lawbreakers in an effort to prevent rioting.
In all, six officers and a sergeant handed out more than 120 citations and arrested one person over the weekend, EPD spokeswoman Pam Olshanski said. Most of the citations were alcohol- and noise-related.
Of those cited, Olshanski said about 90 percent identified themselves as University students.
Aside from alcohol offenses, a laptop computer was stolen and a registered sex offender was cited for not changing his address when he received a minor in possession citation.
Police focused on keeping drunken students from getting out of control, which is what led to the September riot.
“The intent (of patrols) is to prevent another one from happening,” Olshanski said.
