Oregon women’s lacrosse fell to No. 10 Stanford, 14-2 on Friday. This is Oregon’s second home loss of the season, and brings the Ducks’ record to 8-5 (3-3 MPSF).
Stanford’s Kelsey Murray scored in the first 11 seconds, giving Stanford a quick 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Stanford’s Kelly Myers scored with 23:59 left in the first period to increase the Cardinal lead to two.
After 10 minutes of a strong defensive hold for the Ducks, Stanford went on a 6-0 run before the end of the first period, increasing the Cardinal lead to 8-0.
Stanford once again came out strong with a goal by Dillon Schoen 44 seconds into the second period. Less than two minutes later, Stanford’s Anna Salemo scored to give the Cardinal a 10-0 lead.
Oregon finally got on the board when junior midfielder Rachel Steinberg scored on a free position attempt, leaving 25:28 left to play.
The Cardinal responded with 17:43 left on the clock to extend the lead back to ten. Oregon, however, did not allow for that lead to last, and the Duck’s Carly O’Connell scored less than a minute later, cutting the Oregon deficit to nine.
The Ducks were unable to cut the Cardinal lead to any fewer than that, and Stanford went on to score the final three goals of the game.
Next up, the Ducks look to recover from this loss as they play UC Davis on Sunday.
