Sacred Heart Medical Center heart failure survey
The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported that Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend has a 19 percent re-admission rate for heart failure, making it the lowest of all the surveyed hospitals nationwide, reported KEZI.
The results were based on nationwide study from July 2008 to June 2011.
Hospitals can be penalized if patients are re-admitted for the same condition within 30 days.
Florence woman dies from injuries
Florence resident Sharen Ann Joslin, 72, died after sustaining injuries from a car accident, reported KMTR.
The accident occurred on Oct. 14 on Highway 126W near Walton. Three other people, Richard J. Joslin, David D. Beck, and Melanie K. Whitehead received minor injuries.
Stolen puppy retrieved
An Oregon City couple’s stolen bulldog puppy was returned to them unharmed after SWAT arrested a suspect in Vancouver for property theft, reported KMTR.
The couple intended to sell the puppy for $2,000 to the suspect on Friday, until he pulled out a gun and stole the puppy and some of their other belongings.
The SWAT Team held a three-hour standoff against the suspect, Jajuane Etheridge, before arresting him Sunday.
Massive bike theft in Eugene
Forty bicycles and other equipment used for a bike safety program were stolen during the weekend, reported The Register-Guard.
The suspects made off with a cargo trailer, valued around $6,000, with the bicycles and equipment, valued around $32,000, at the back parking lot at Prairie Mountain School in the Bethel School District.
Oregon gas price
Oregon’s average gasoline price is $3.98, according to AAA auto club, making it nine cents lower in a week — the same price as last month, reported KMTR.
Portland’s average gas price is $3.96, Salem’s average is $3.95, and Eugene’s average is $4.
