Teen kills two while fleeing police
Emanuel Herrera-Gutierrez, 16, was found guilty on two counts of manslaughter in the death of two people while fleeing from police. Oregon State Police attempted to pull Herrera-Gutierrez over on Beltline Road which resulted in a pursuit. A short time later, Herrera-Gutierrez crashed into a truck, throwing the driver and passenger from the truck. The two people, Toni Lynn Bryson and Richard Taylor, both died.
Herrera-Gutierrez will face six years in prison, according to KMTR.
Eugene home destroyed by fire
Four people are now without a home after a their house caught fire and was destroyed. The fire took place around 3 p.m. this afternoon on Wilkie Street, according to KEZI.
No one was injured in the fire.
New mural represents diversity at Lance Community College
Lane Community College unveiled their new mural today, KEZI reported. The mural is the length of the one side of the building.
The mural originally started as a class project, driven by students. Volunteers were brought in to help with the completion of the project. The mural is meant to represent diversity in the community and adds color to campus.
Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser at Sheldon
Sheldon High School’s volleyball team will be holding a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society in support of Breast Cancer Awareness, according to KMTR.
All of the proceeds raised for the night will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Last year the team raised $2,500. This year the goal is to reach $3,000.
The fundraiser will take place on October 4 at Sheldon. The auction and junior varsity matches start at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m.
Arrest warrant issued for suspected burglar/arsonist
Jim Earl Hass, 37, failed to appear at his arraignment Wednesday night and has now been issued an arrest warrant, according to The Register-Guard.
Hass has been charged with first-degree theft, second-degree arson, burglary and criminal mischief. His charges are in correlation with a June 21 incident at Mac’s Restaurant and Nightclub where Hass broke into the restaurant, tried stealing money and set the building on fire. Hass had previously been fired from the restaurant. The owners of the business, the McCallum family, reported losing an estimated $3,000.
