Be prepared to don your birthday suit
“I’ve always had a great time at the hot springs. They provide a very private environment to relax and enjoy nature. So private, in fact, that it’s not uncommon to encounter the occasional naked local. On one specific trip to the hot springs I succumbed to temptation and was soon in my birthday suit. Let me tell you, it was quite the liberating experience, and I encourage all go to and try; just make sure to leave your inhibitions at home.” — Justin Burr@@checked Facebook@@
People-watching at its finest
“So we went out to the hot springs one night and forgot to bring any candles or flashlights. As we got down there, there were only a couple people, so we thought we would have it mostly to ourselves. Once we all got in (mostly clothed) we realized that there was a bum lurking in the very back corner where no one could see him. The people sitting closest to him started hearing him rant about how aliens were living among us and other various conspiracies until eventually he told us all we were going to die. After about a half an hour of this, he finally stopped and just disappeared. I was sitting near my girlfriend, so when I felt a foot rub up on my leg I figured it was her. Little did I know it was the lurking bum. We all decided we had had enough of the creepy bum and packed it up and took off.” — Conner Beckwith@@http://directory.uoregon.edu/ws-directory-client/directory.jsp@@
A new experience on each occasion
“Funny generally isn’t how I would characterize the hot springs, or at least my experiences there. I would use the words profound, personal, introspective … y’know. There are usually some interesting characters hanging out there that under normal circumstances I might find funny, but part of going for me is letting go of judgement and loving everything. There’s little room for irony or making fun of people. One time I brought a friend with me who wasn’t entirely comfortable with being naked, but she decided to get in naked anyway once she saw the pools. There was an old bearded man performing some strange movements on a young pretty girl, which automatically made me think something creepy was going on. I am a massage therapist, and after a bit of watching realized he was doing an obscure water version of my massage style, shiatsu, called Watsu. I asked him about it when they were finished, and he was really excited to meet someone who had heard of it. He asked if I would like a short 10 minute session, and I agreed. I thought this would make my friend very uncomfortable but, she also accepted a short session from him. — Joel Janson@@checked Facebook@@
